The World is Flat Book is a wake up call to everyone
I know this is a touchy subject for some people, but I feel it is timely subject to the state in which our Economy currently is in. I know from the past that things will come back around. I know the economy is like relationships, it is like a Roller Coaster ride, you have up times, down times and smooth times. But as on a Roller Coaster ride the world keeps changing fast and we need to change and adjust to it. Think how fast the world has changed just in the last 25 years. Look at Computers in 1984 to now. How often was a computer used and by how many people in 1984, not many. Look at some of the businesses that were in business in 1984 but are not in business now. Why are they not around anymore? I would suggest is they refused to change as the world was changing. They refused to re-tool and do things differently. I am reading “The World is Flat - a brief history of the Twenty - First Century 3.0″ book by Thomas L Friedman. I would suggest to add this to one of your next books you read. Think about the following:
And we wonder why we are having a problem with our economy.
John Smith started the day early having set his
alarm clock
(MADE IN JAPAN ) for 6:00 AM
While his coffeepot
(MADE IN CHINA )
was perking, he shaved with his
electric razor
(MADE IN HONG KONG ).
He put on a
dress shirt
(MADE IN SRI LANKA ),
designer jeans
(MADE IN SINGAPORE )
and
tennis shoes
(MADE IN KOREA )
After cooking his breakfast in his new
electric skillet
(MADE IN INDIA )
he sat down with his
calculator
(MADE IN MEXICO )
to see how much he could spend today. After setting his
watch
(MADE IN TAIWAN )
to the radio
(MADE IN INDIA )
he got in his car
(MADE IN GERMANY )
filled it with GAS
(from Saudi Arabia )
and continued his search
for a good paying AMERICAN JOB.
At the end
of yet another discouraging
and fruitless day
checking his
Computer
(Made In Malaysia ),
Joe decided to relax for a while.
He put on his sandals
(MADE IN BRAZIL )
poured himself a glass of
wine
(MADE IN FRANCE )
and turned on his
TV
(MADE IN INDONESIA ),
and then wondered
why he can’t find
a good paying job
in AMERICA .

Outsourcing products to jobs
Some people hear the word and think of outsourcing as a four letter word. They blame it on the way the US economy is in. But we have bought the items from other countries, we may have hired a business from another country to do work for us. People have their own opinions on if it is good or bad. I say read “The World is Flat 3.0″ book and then look at the possibilities of the future. Giving up is not going to solve our economy, the thing that is will be change and hard work.
How will the world be 25 years from now?
Once you read this book and Stephen R. Covey “The 8th Habit from Effectiveness to Greatness” Book you may think differently of what could be in the future. You may say why have the traditional office buildings? We are in the age of technology, more people can work from home. They could be more productive and more creative at home. Most homes now have a Computer, Internet access, Telephone, Cell Phones to Black Berry to PDA’s, Fax Machines, Scanners and more. So why couldn’t they do some of the work from the office? Why not half their week or all week from home. Think what it could save corporations to not have to pay for a large building, for utilities and furniture. I know I have more friends than ever that are working from home. Have fun thinking out of the box and Have a great day. Let me know your thoughts and ideas.
